Sherman Boathouse

““Handyman’s Special” ... this is the title my late father gave this photo he snapped in June of 1996.

Do you remember this boathouse at the north end of the lake? As a youngster, I recall it as we used to fish near it, very close to Buttermilk Falls.  Not sure when the structure was removed, or perhaps fell down .. I’m guessing maybe 20 years or so ago??

My father, Jack’s last visit to Boshkung was in 2006 – to view the tornado damage that, sadly, affected so many properties on the lake.

His first visit to Boshkung was in 1935 when his older brother stayed at Camp Calumet. Papa Jack fell in love with the area.  My parents, Eileen and Jack were married in 1953 and honeymooned at The Homestead .. a vacation destination they continued to frequent each summer until 1969.

It was Thanksgiving of that same year that they purchased the property from Phyllis and Arthur Beale at the south end of the lake .. the place my wife, Jennifer and I now call home.

My sister and her family have the original Beale Place beside us ... carrying on the family tradition that is so very much a part of the beautiful memories so many of us share on Boshkung."
